The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch will return to the Monroe County Courthouse lawn Saturday for its tenth year.
The pumpkin patch will have thousands of hand blown glass pumpkins available for purchase.
Bloomington Creative Glass Center Executive Director Abby Gitlitz started the project. The first year of the fundraiser, she made nearly 200 of the pumpkins by herself.
Ten years later, more than 80 volunteers put in the work to create thousands of glass pumpkins for the pumpkin patch.
“At the pumpkin patch we invite people to come bring their family, bring their kids-come interact with the glass," she says. "See what it is, see what we can do. Get inspired to take a class. People start thinking, ‘Oh wait maybe I could do that."
The Bloomington Creative Glass Center (BCGC) began working on this project in January of this year. They make anywhere between 30 to 40 pumpkins a day for ten months.
This fundraiser allows the BCGC to provide better educational programs for students and members of the community who want to learn more about glassblowing.
The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other activities include face painting, a fused glass workshop, and pumpkin painting.
