Howard County has experienced nine tornadoes over the past decade, but the frequency of severe weather in the area may be more bad luck than science.
Just Monday the National Weather Service issued two tornado warnings for Kokomo. And last year an EF3 tornado injured 20 people and caused $10 million in property damage.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew White says it's unclear why tornadoes come through Howard County so often.
"There's nothing specific to the area it's just kind of been an area that's been hit a couple times in that first storm and I guess in recent times, but again there's nothing specific to the area that would cause an increased risk or be the cause for that," White says.
The worst tornado to hit the Kokomo area is known as the 1965 Palm Sunday Tornado, which killed 17 people and injured more than 500.
