Seema Verma Praises Hoosier Women At Lugar Series Event

The head of Medicare and Medicaid Services, Seema Verma, made an appearance in Indiana Friday. She was the keynote speaker at the Lugar Series 27th annual event.

She also received the Nancy Maloley  Outstanding Public Servant Award.

The Lugar Series is a political development group that tries to enhance women's role in public positions.

As a graduate of the Lugar Series, Verma says women have come a long way in Indiana.

"New pathways have opened for women in the work place, in the board room, and in public office," Verma says. "We stand on the shoulders of many great women who are leaders and mentors and pave the way for us."

President Donald Trump nominated Verma to be the administrator for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and she was confirmed on March 13th. Verma played a large role in designing Indiana's Medicaid program, HIP 2.0, under former Governor Mike Pence.
