The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department says the City of Bloomington’s new armored vehicle was deployed for the first time during a welfare check call that ended in a suicide Monday.
The sheriff’s department called for assistance from the Critical Incident Response Team after hearing what sounded like a gunshot inside a home on South Smith Road. Only CIRT has access to the Lenco Bearcat.
The sheriff’s department says the team used the vehicle primarily to ensure the safety of a negotiator, who was trying to communicate with the armed man who was inside.
Police say the man died from suicide.
