Board Of Zoning Appeals Postpones Hearing For Bloomington Opioid Treatment Center

The Board of Zoning Appeals hearing for a privately-owned Bloomington treatment center is now postponed to Aug. 23rd.

The Indiana Center for Recovery provides transitional housing for patients dealing with alcohol and opioid addictions.

The center filed an appeal after receiving a notice from the city Planning and Transportation Department last month stating that its two buildings on West 1st Street are not zoned accurately.

The notice of violation states that one of the center’s properties on West 1 st St. is listed as a residential treatment center and the other is listed as the property owner’s address. The city says both buildings within the center need to be zoned as a “rehabilitation clinic”, which requires an additional approval process.

An official representative of the Indiana Center for Recovery says the center is not in violation of the city’s zoning requirements and the notices of violation are not consistent with the language detailed by the Unified Development Ordinance.

The BZA appeal hearing was originally scheduled for July 18 th.
