Greenwood Cancels Planned $40M Sports Complex

An Indianapolis suburb has cancelled a planned sports complex after the owners of Indianapolis' minor league hockey team pulled out of the $40 million project.

Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers announced Tuesday that the family of Indy Fuel owners Jim and Sean Hallett had decided not to proceed with the project.

The Halletts say they had sought a one-time rebate from Indianapolis Power & Light Co. of up to $2.7 million for a $5 million energy-saving system planned for the facility but IPL offered just $150,000.

Jim Hallett tells the  Indianapolis Business Journal the failed attempt to get the rebate "absolutely" affected their decision to pull out.

The project in the city just south of Indianapolis would have included two ice rinks, five basketball courts, a fitness and training facility.
