A years-long effort to redevelop a historic pavilion at Indiana Dunes State Park in northwest Indiana faces another hurdle.
National Park Service officials said in a letter this month that they noticed several "problematic" updates to the plans, which would bring a restaurant and rooftop bar to the building.
The officials say they will need to conduct a new review of the project due to concerns that the changes will reduce public access to the building.
Developer Chuck Williams, who is also state treasurer of the Indiana Republican Party, first proposed the privatization deal to state officials in 2010. He was later granted a contract with favorable terms.
Williams said Wednesday that the new review amounts to a minor hiccup.
Conservationists who oppose the project celebrated the news.
