Republican Tyler Moore Wins Race For Kokomo Mayor

Kokomo's mayor-elect, Tyler Moore, celebrates with his family and speaks to a large crowd of supporters.

Kokomo Republican Tyler Moore rolled to a decisive victory over Democrat Abbie Smith and Libertarian Michael Virgin with 69 percent of the vote Tuesday night.

Moore’s win flips Kokomo’s mayor from a Democrat to a Republican. Kokomo’s longest serving Mayor Greg Goodnight announced he would not seek reelection last year.

Moore previously served as a Howard County Commissioner for ten years. Moore says he plans to implement a number of changes with public safety and infrastructure, but also calls for more transparency with city finances.

Moore drew several contrasts between himself and outgoing mayor Greg Goodnight.

“The main difference between the two of us is that I’m ready to give a voice back to the city [and] the administration," Moore says. He believes, "greater transparency with the community [and] a greater respect and support for both the police department and fire department," are also key differences.

Speaking before a capacity crowd at Elite Banquet & Conference Center, Moore celebrated a sweep for the Republican Party. He says he’ll promote greater support for police and fireman in the community as well as strengthening family values.

Moore says he still has plans to work with those with different viewpoints.
