Voters Head To Polls Tuesday In City Council, Mayoral Races

On Tuesday, voters in Monroe County, Vigo County and Howard County will head to the polls for municipal elections.

Officials will distribute ballots in only two Bloomington City Council districts: 2 and 3. In every other district, candidates are running unopposed.

The ballot’s only Republican candidate, Andrew Guenther, will face Democrat Sue Sgambelluri for the District 2 seat.

In total, six Democratic  city council candidates advanced to the November election.

Incumbent Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton and City Clerk Nicole Bolden, as well as all at-large city council candidates, are running unopposed.

As such, the election board will operate only nine polling sites in November, instead of the 21 that were used in May’s primary election.

In Kokomo’s mayoral race, Democrat Abbie Smith and Republican Tyler Moore will face off to fill the seat left open by the outgoing Greg Goodnight (D).

Goodnight announced earlier this year he wouldn’t seek reelection.

Terre Haute’s mayoral election will see four candidates on the ballot: incumbent  Duke Bennett (R), Karrum Nasser (D), Pat Goodwin (I) and Shane Meehan (I). Bennett has held the office since 2008. If Bennett wins, he will become the first Terre Haute mayor to be elected to four terms.

Correction: Terre Haute's mayoral race includes two Independent candidates who were not listed in this original story. We regret the error.
