Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett will keep his seat, winning by the narrowest margins of any of his four campaigns, coming in with around 42 percent of the vote.
Independent candidate Pat Goodwin came in second with around 40 percent of the vote, only a 216 vote difference.
Goodwin says as an independent candidate his goal was to be a voice for the people and create fundamental change in the city.
“I was trying to propose solutions to the city’s problems in a very nonpartisan way, and that appealed to a lot of people obviously,” Goodwin says.
Goodwin does not have any future political plans. He intends to return to running his business, Tractor Tools Direct, full time now that elections have ended.
Democratic candidate Karrum Nasser came in third with a little over 17 percent of the vote.
