The Governor’s Workforce Cabinet is getting public input on the state’s workforce programs to shape a federal funding proposal. The cabinet held its ninth listening session across the state in South Bend.
In order to receive millions of dollars in federal workforce funding, the cabinet is required to ask for public input. So far, the cabinet has received most of its questions about how Perkins funding will be used for education programs and concerns about barriers to services like transportation and lack of childcare.
Blair Milo, secretary for career connections and talent, represented the cabinet Wednesday night. She says at many listening sessions, attendees offered ideas on how communities can offer workforce training and assistance programs more efficiently.
“[It’s about] how we’re helping our constituents, how we’re helping the customer be able to navigate all the different resources that are available, but are disjointed,” Milo says.
The Governor’s Workforce Cabinet will submit Indiana’s plan to the Department of Labor for funding in the spring of 2020.
