Indiana Democratic Party Chair John Zody is calling for Governor Eric Holcomb to reschedule his travel plans and listen to the thousands of educators set to rally at the statehouse Tuesday.
More than 100 school districts around the state will close while their teachers rally for better pay.
Holcomb’s office says he will be in Florida for a Republican Governors Association conference scheduled months ago.
In a statement, Zody says, “Mixed messages and more study committees won’t help educators pay the bills or put food on the table. Holcomb has a golden opportunity Tuesday to lay out a path forward.
Holcomb has said he applauds teachers for expressing their concerns.
The rally is dubbed “Red for Ed Action Day” and falls on the day legislators meet ahead of the 2020 session.
