Poultry Producers Account 100 Tons In Yearly Donations To Local Foodbanks

Indiana is one of the nation's leaders in poultry production.

Indiana’s State Poultry Association has donated more than 100 tons of product throughout the year to a number of local food banks across the state—that’s about the sixty times as heavy as the weight of a car.

Today during a ceremony at the Statehouse, Lt. Gov Suzanne Crouch thanked the producers for their donations throughout the year…

"Truly it is your generosity—not just at this time of the year, but throughout the year—that truly lifts up Hoosiers throughout our state," Crouch says.

Indiana ranks as one of the top states in the nation for poultry production.  Despite the large number of donations, experts say there are many Hoosiers going hungry.

The donations and today’s ceremony with poultry producers is a tradition that dates back to the 1940s.
