INDOT Work On I-69 To Ramp Up In 2020

As the year winds down, work on the I-69 project will ramp up in 2020.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has 24 miles of highway left to convert into I-69, linking Indianapolis to Evansville. The department expects it will be complete by 2024.

Crews recently placed beams on a pedestrian overpass near Martinsville High School.

INDOT’s spokesperson for the region, Natalie Garrett, says State Road 37 will remain one lane in each direction in Martinsville through 2020.

"In 2021 a section of 37 in Martinsville is scheduled to close, the detour will be around to State Road 67," she says.

Drivers can detour onto State Road 144 to get back on 37 or continue on to Mooresville on 67.

Tree work and utility relocation will also begin along most of the corridor between Martinsville and the south side of Indianapolis.
