House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her support earlier this week for the United States-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement after wrapping up months of negotiations on a number of provisions.

The support is welcome news for Hoosier dairy and poultry farmers as well as manufacturers as it will likely keep more manufacturing in American factories.

Mike Braun says the deal is important for Hoosiers across the state.

“Some of the things even when the democrats were to make sure that wage labor practices—I was not against that. I’ve always been a conservative that believes raising wages are one of the most important things we need to do,” Braun says.

But not all industries will likely benefit from the deal. Corn and soybean farmers won’t see a significant increase in their bottom lines.

Data from the United States Census Bureau shows Indiana’s two largest trade partners are Canada and Mexico.
