Although it’s not expected to be as busy as it was for Thanksgiving, plenty of people will be flying during the December holidays.
TSA recommends you arrive at the airport three hours early for international flights, two hours for domestic flights.
TSA Spokesman Mark Howell says his agency is doing its best to make sure there are enough security screeners at every airport.
“We take a look at the projections that come in, from the airlines, and we make sure we match up the projections, with the appropriate amount of staff and lanes that we have open,” says Howell.
Passengers are asked to have their passport or ID ready to present to the document checker, so the line can move faster.
“When you get up there and you are fumbling through your purse or wallet to try and get those things out, it does lose a couple seconds, but when you add those seconds up it could be minutes and cause a bit of a backup,” says Howell.
It’s recommended you take only unwrapped gifts through security, because agents may have to go through them.
Small pets that are allowed to travel in the aircraft cabin can be carried through the metal detector, and do not have to go through the X-Ray machine.
