Price Bump, Trade Deal Could Help Dairy Farmers Turn Profit In 2020

For the first time in years, dairy farmers are looking forward to price increases for their products.

The United States Department of Agriculture says price forecasts for nearly all dairy products will be greater in 2020 than they were in 2019.

That’s good news for farmers, many of which have been producing below the cost of production for the last several years.

It’s just been a really long time," he says. "Five years is way too long for anyone to have to go through this, so we’re very thankful to see these prices turning around somewhat.”

Those gains for farmers are likely to translate to higher prices for consumers as the overall supply of milk is expected to decrease.

In addition to the less supply, the United States, Mexico, Canada Trade Agreement or USMCA is also expected to open additional markets to American dairy farmers.
