Construction on the new facility for the Humane Association of Monroe County is expected to be completed by April, a month ahead of schedule.
The 4,400 square foot building off South Kirby Road will have double the space of the organization’s current location in Ellettsville.
“We’ve got two exam rooms and an x-ray space where were at currently, here we go to 4 exam rooms, an x-ray space, pharmacy, surgery animal care, grooming,” says Executive Director Rebecca Warren.
Construction on the entire facility was paid for with private donations.
The Humane Association helps provide medical services for pets that are in low income families.
“90 percent of our clients are subsidized, meaning they’re showing proof of participation in a government funded assistance program,” says Warren.
The new building will also provide shelter for animals that are from a home where domestic violence is taking place, or the home was destroyed by a fire or natural disaster.
