Indiana Primary Election Filing Period Ended Friday

The deadline to file to run in Indiana’s 2020 primary elections was noon Friday.

Candidates up for election in Indiana primaries are president, governor, attorney general, all seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, all seats in the Indiana House of Representatives and 25 of 50 seats in the Indiana State Senate.

Two southwest Indiana Republican incumbent U.S. House members filed for re-election: Larry Bucshon represents Evansville and other areas southwest of Bloomington. Trey Hollingsworth represents Bloomington and areas south and southeast of the city.

Three candidates have filed to run in the Democratic primary to challenge Bucshon, while five have filed to challenge Hollingsworth.

For the Indiana State Senate, incumbent Republican Sen. Eric Koch is running for re-election in District 44. He's from Bedford.

In District 40, two democrats and one republican filed in primary races for the seat left by Sen. Mark Stoops, who represents Bloomington. He is not running for re-election.

The Democratic Party primary candidates are former Monroe County Council member Shelli Yoder and Indiana State Democratic Party Chairman John Zody of Bloomington.

All five Monroe County incumbents in the Indiana House of Representatives have filed for re-election.

In the Republican primary, Bob Heaton of district 46 and Chris may of District 65 are running unopposed. In District 60, Dave Rinehart is challenging incumbent Peggy Mayfield. In District 62, Greg Knott is challenging Jeff Ellington.

In the Democratic primary, Tiffany Grant, incumbent Matt Pierce and Alyssa Bailey are running unopposed in districts 60, 61, and 62. In District 65, Paula Staley is also running unopposed.

Also up for election are county clerk, auditor, recorder, treasurer, coroner, surveyor, assessor, and some county commissioners and county council seats.

The Republican and Democratic primaries are Tuesday, May 5.​
