Former Monroe County Councilmember Shelli Yoder says she is throwing her hat in the ring to represent Bloomington and all of District 40 in the Indiana State Senate.
That seat is currently held by Democrat Mark Stoops, who announced late last year that he would not be running in the 2020 election.
Yoder will go up against State Democratic Chair John Zody in the primary on May 5.
Yoder, a Bloomington resident ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives twice, once in 2012 when she lost to Republican Todd Young and in 2016 when she was defeated by Republican Trey Hollingsworth.
She says her campaign will bring “bold, progressive solutions to our greatest challenges,” including the environment, education and an inclusive economy.
Yoder is a lecturer at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
