Purdue Study: Broadband Investment Can Spur Economic Development

The Indiana Statehouse.

A study from Purdue University shows every dollar spent on broadband infrastructure returns four back in economic prosperity.

The numbers also show more than four in five Hoosiers residing in rural communities would spend more money on internet if it was available.

Alison Grant is a PhD Candidate and has worked on multiple studies about the topic. She says research supports investing in rural Indiana primarily because of that demand.

“A lot of these people are living in rural areas where they would benefit from this," she says. "It’s demanded by residents in the area.”

Legislators are still working to allocate funds freed up by Governor Holcomb’s Next Level initiative for the planning of broadband infrastructure.
