The Brown County Music Center’s Board of Directors and the Nashville Town Council are trying to negotiate an unpaid water and sewer charge.

The bill is for $12,695, but more than half of that charge is for labor costs associated with finding the right water main. Crews could not immediately pinpoint the location of the main.

Brown County Music Center Board Co-President Barry Herring says the music venue should be off the hook for that charge.

“We’re not paying the bill because we feel we suffered major damages because of how you told us incorrect information as to where these lines were,” Herring says.

The 2,000-seat theatre, which opened last August, is being funded by a portion of an innkeeper’s tax.

“They should have brought it to our attention ASAP, I mean we’re talking about a bill that was sent out in August and an installation that was done in July,” says Town Attorney Jim Roberts.

Town officials say the council will have to vote on any final negotiated settlement before the bill is paid.
