Project Would Convert Old S.R. 37 Through Lower Cascades To Pedestrian Trail

The City of Bloomington plans to close a section of Old State Road 37 from March 13 through Sept. 30 for a six-month pilot project, according to a letter given to nearby residents from the Parks and Recreation Department.

The project will cut off just over half a mile of motorist access between the Lower Cascades Park playground and the entrance of Rogers Group quarry. This stretch of road will be temporarily converted into a bicycle and pedestrian trail to "explore the impacts of such a change."

This is one of seven public improvement projects being paid for with Bicentennial Bonds from 2018.

During the project, the Sycamore Shelter and parking lots around the playground will remain open. The Waterfall Shelter will not be accessible by vehicles.

The city's Board of Public works will hear the Parks Department's request for the pilot project at 5:30 p.m. March 3 in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Residents wishing to share opinions on the project are encouraged to attend the meeting.
