Indiana University is refurbishing the Musical Arts Center at the Jacobs School of Music this summer.
In a statement Friday, the university said the project would include replacing the Musical Arts Center’s 1,460 seats and carpet. The statement said the refurbishment would create accommodations for accessibility that would include removing a small number of seats.
The Well House Society, which is part of the Indiana University Foundation, is funding the renovations as part of the university’s bicentennial.
"The news of the refurbishment of the seats and carpet in the Musical Arts Center is a thrilling development -- the achievement of a long-held aspiration of many patrons of the MAC," said Gwyn Richards, dean of the IU Jacobs School.
IU President Michael McRobbie was set to announce the project Friday night at a performance.
The refurbishment is expected to be complete in time for the 2020-21 performance season.
