Bloomington city officials are enhancing safety protocols over concerns of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement released late Wednesday says the city is working with the county health department, Indiana University, IU Health, school systems, and local emergency personnel to protect public health and coordinate preventive actions.

The city is recommending 'social distancing' to prevent COVID-19 by coming up with options for employees and residents who want to participate in city events.

The city plans to limit large in-person meetings effective March 16 such as the Women's History Month Luncheon. City board and commission meetings will be postponed except as needed for critical services.

The city will offer CATS public access television, Facebook Live, or comments from it's website submission form as an alternative for public meetings that do take place.

An emergency response team has been formed to address critical operations in the event of staffing shortages.
