Indiana University is appointing Scott Dolson as the new athletic director. Dolson is IU Athletics’ deputy director and chief operating officer. He’s also served as the director of the IU Varsity Club.

IU President Michael McRobbie made the announcement today in a statement. He says Dolson is well positioned to lead the program.

"For more than two decades at IU, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring that our student athletes achieve success both on and off the field, compete within the rules and represent IU with passion, integrity and distinction,” McRobbie says.

Dolson will take over for Fred Glass late this summer. Glass announced his retirement in December.

A 14-member committee chaired by IU Vice President for Government Relations Bill Stephan recommended Dolson.

"I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to lead the Indiana University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, a place I have served for more than two decades and have long had a tremendous love and passion for," Dolson said.

Dolson is a Michigan City, Indiana native. He served as an IU basketball student manager before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in management from the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environment Affairs in 1988.
