Bloomington officials will start road improvements and other public infrastructure projects ahead of schedule during Gov. Holcomb’s "stay-at-home" order.
The city says that with the roads restricted to all but essential business until April 7 due to the coronavirus pandemic, several projects can start earlier than expected.
Kirkwood Avenue Maintenance Project
- A project to repair crosswalks and install bollards will begin on or around April 1 (six weeks ahead of schedule).
- Installation of a new north-south crosswalk on the west side of Indiana Avenue.
- Crosswalk replacement at the intersection of Grant, and possibly Washington.
- By mid-May work is expected to start at the intersections of Dunn, Lincoln and Walnut.
- After paving the entire length of Kirkwood, the project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
School Enhancement Zone Project
- While local schools have moved to e-learning, crosswalks used by students will be redone.
- The improvements in school zones throughout the city include signs and flashing beacons that alert drivers to reduce speed.
- All enhancements are expected to be operational by the start to the 2020-21 academic year.
