The City of Bloomington plans to launch an online farmers market in the wake of social distancing recommendations and gathering restrictions that stem from the global spread of coronavirus.
The project is being finalized now, but the city says the online market will restore a sense of community and help prop up vendors who rely on the market for income.
Julie Ramey is the City of Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation Department Community Relations Manager. She says the website should launch soon and will allow consumers to search for what they want both by owner and product.
"When we were looking at how to really connect thousands of market shoppers with market vendors then we knew that an online system is definitely the way to go," she says.
Ramey says after ordering, shoppers will pick up items at a designated time slot based on their last name. The city still expects the in-person market to resume once the current restrictions are lifted.
