IU Grad Mark Cuban Talks Nationwide College Graduation Celebration

Indiana University alumnus and well-known entrepreneur Mark Cuban says he wants to put on a nationwide college graduation celebration after restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic are lifted.

Universities around the state and country have moved to online instruction and canceled events for the spring semester. Among those many events are many graduation and commencement ceremonies.

Cuban says he brought the idea of a post-graduation event to entertainment company Live Nation. His idea is to have concerts at schools across the country to celebrate the graduating classes with live performances.

“There will be a post-graduation, graduation day and just have the biggest celebration ever, starting in Bloomington and give everyone who wanted to do it a chance to graduate,” Cuban said on an entertainment podcast called Hoosier Hysterics.

IU spokesperson Chuck Carney says the university is not currently coordinating with Cuban about this idea, but they welcome ideas about how to honor the spring 2020 graduates.
