Brown County schools are working on alternate learning methods during school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. Officials say the rural community’s lack of internet connectivity is a problem for the school’s eLearning days.
The schools are using ten of the twenty waiver days the state issued to organize alternative learning methods.
Superintendent Laura Hammack says it’s tough to ramp up eLearning like other urban areas. But she’s thrilled a local internet provider is installing access points on all school parking lots.
“Flexibility is the rule, our educators and our families – we are just going to meet the students where they are and it might look different depending on who and what your certain circumstances might present,” Hammack says.
She says eLearning starts a week from Monday along with paper packet distribution points for those that can’t access the internet.
The transfer will happen at food distribution sites the schools already have in progress. Families that have meals delivered will coordinate paper packet transfers at that time as well.
