Decatur—which includes the city of Greensburg—and other surrounding counties in southeastern Indiana are seeing a high density of COVID-19 tests return positive, according to the lastest data from the Indiana State Department of Health.

Nearly 65 percent of reported tests in Decatur County have returned positive, while adjacent Franklin County has seen fifty percent of tests return positive. For context, Marion County has seen a positive test rate around 20 percent.

The state’s health commissioner, Dr. Kristina Box, says the state has been in contact with health officials in there and are aware of the trend.

“We have been in contact with them," she says. "We’ll do the drive-thru testing down in Clark County, and probably will come a little bit further north and do it up around Decatur and Ripley also.”

Box says a greater number of tests per capita are being administered in that portion of the state in hopes of slowing the spread of illness.
