State's Online Map Of COVID-19 Testing Sites Shows 3 In Monroe Co.

Indiana State Health Department Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver on Monday announced the launch of an online map documenting testing sites across the state.

Weaver is discussing a new addition to the Health Department's website: a map of all testing locations across the state. She says the map will change as locations are added and shift according to need. pic.twitter.com/1K1I1RVk7U — Brandon J. Smith (@brandonjsmith5) May 4, 2020

As of Tuesday, the map lists 121 COVID-19 testing sites, including three in Monroe County: drive-through testing sites at IU Health Bloomington Hospital and Monroe Hospital, and one walk-in site at Summit Urology.

IU Health requires test subjects to be both symptomatic and have a doctor's note recommending a test. Monroe Hospital doesn't require a doctor's note, but is only testing healthcare workers, essential workers, those who have been exposed to a known case and those who are symptomatic.

Summit Urology will test those who are due to have a surgical procedure.

More coronavirus testing is due to come to the Bloomington area soon — OptumServe Health Services announced last Friday that Monroe County will be home to one of 50 testing sites it is setting up across the state in the coming weeks.

Numbers from the ISDH show coronavirus cases per capita in Monroe County are well below statewide statistics: as of Tuesday, roughly 88 out of every 100,000 Monroe County residents have tested positive, compared to about 314 out of every 100,000 Hoosiers.
