COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to increase with 1,138 Hoosiers hospitalized due to the virus.

Indiana heath officials on Friday added the deaths of 27 more people with confirmed coronavirus infections to the state’s toll from the pandemic.

The state agency reported 27 new deaths involving confirmed COVID-19 infections, increasing that total to 1,791. It also added one more death with a presumed infection, giving the state 150 deaths considered coronavirus-related by doctors but without confirmation of the illness from test results.

Those additional deaths, most of which occurred Wednesday or Thursday, give the state an overall total of 1,941 confirmed or presumed COVID-19 fatalities since Indiana’s first was recorded March 15, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

According to the state agency, there are 493 new positive cases Friday, bringing the total number of cases in Indiana to 30,409.

Monroe County's total case number increased by one to 157. The number of confirmed deaths in the county is 10, the same as reported yesterday.

Data provided shows 2,516 Monroe County residents have been tested.

And Bloomington's newest COVID-19 testing site opened Friday -- the OptumServe facility is open to test pre-registered patients Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 8 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ISDH says it has tested 208,561 people across the state so far. That number includes tests run by the state, the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention, and some private laboratories. ISDH says the  "number of tests is provisional and reflects only those reported to ISDH. Numbers should not be characterized as a comprehensive total."

Friday's numbers show that 16.1% of the state's 2,591 existing intensive care unit (ICU) beds are currently being used by patients with COVID-19-related illnesses, while 37.8% are still available.

And as of noon Friday, 5.6% of the state's 3,079 total ventilators are being used by COVID-19 patients, while 81.4% are still available.
