Early Voting Begins Today, Over 200 Ballots Cast So Far In Monroe Co.

Early voting begins Tuesday in Indiana and goes until June 1. Monroe County residents can go to Election Central at 401 W. Seventh Street in Bloomington to cast an early vote.

Karen Wheeler is the Monroe County election supervisor. She says so far today, more than 200 ballots have been cast, which is low but still more than she expected.

In-person voters are not required to wear masks, but strongly encouraged. Wheeler says most people working the polls are older, and vulnerable to COVID-19.

Candidates up for election are president, governor, attorney general, all seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, all seats in the Indiana House of Representatives, and 25 of the 50 seats in the Indiana Senate.

Primary Election day is June 2 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Precincts have been consolidated to seven locations in response to COVID-19, as residents were encouraged to vote by mail this year.

These locations are: Edgewood High School, Bloomington City Hall, Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, Arlington Heights Elementary, Grandview Elementary, Southside Christian Church, and City Church For All Nations.

Wheeler says the county sent out 22,819 ballots and has gotten back 7,500.

Also up for election locally are county clerk, auditor, recorder, treasurer, coroner, surveyor, assessor, and some county commissioners and county council seats.
