Terre Haute’s annual  Strawberry Festival has gone virtual because of COVID-19. The annual event usually attracts almost 20-thousand people to eat strawberry treats and enjoy summer.

But this year,  the event host, First Congregational Church, is encouraging people to perform small acts of kindness and post them on social media with the hashtag #FirstChurchTHFirstFruits.

Kathi Elliott is the co-pastor of the  Church.

She says the event is for everyone, not just church members.

“Everybody’s taking a little bit of a hit. I think this is just a way to promote goodwill and show there are important things that we can still do and be a community,” she says.

The first 200 kids that came by the church Thursday afternoon got a gift bag containing a coupon to places like Pizza Hut and Culver’s.
