Final vote totals for Monroe County’s primary elections were released today. Elections across the state were finalized later than usual this year because of COVID-19 and mail-in ballots.
Former Bloomington City Council member Andy Ruff received 11,234 votes in Monroe County, leading to his victory in securing the Democratic nomination in the Ninth Congressional District. He got 63.5 percent of the Monroe County vote and easily won the nomination in the 13-county district with about 19,000 total votes, more than twice the number of any other candidate. He will face incumbent Trey Hollingsworth, Libertarian Tonya Millis and Independent John Tilford in the November election.
In the Democratic primary Indiana State Senate District 40, former Monroe County Council member Shelli Yoder’s final vote total was 14,806 compared to 3,023 for state Democratic Party Chair John Zody and 436 for Trent Feuerbach.
