As COVID-19 lockdown measures in Bloomington relax and residents return to their jobs and area businesses, traffic has returned to streets and electric scooters have returned to bike lanes and sidewalks.
A third scooter company has parked itself in the Bloomington area.
VeoRide, known as Veo, dropped its first fleet of electric scooters in Bloomington as lockdowns began, in early April. Veo Midwest Regional Manager Ben Thomas says, despite the pandemic, he’s seen an uptick in ridership.
“We are really excited for the market, for the potential it has this summer to do really well for us," he says. "But also from our perspective, what we’re providing is another mode of transportation where people don’t necessarily have to feel uncomfortable being on the bus.”
Thomas says Veo has made sanitizing practices a priority, having local scooter techs disinfect the vehicles as they make their daily tune-up and collection rounds.

Lime and Bird are the two other scooter companies currently operating in Bloomington. Lime has paused its local operations due to the pandemic, while Bird officials say via an email statement that “every vehicle is routinely checked for performance and is cleaned and disinfected regularly.”
