Switchyard Brewing Co. Partners With King Dough To Bring Pizza To Taproom

Switchyard Brewing Co. is adding something new to its North Walnut Street taproom – a kitchen.

Co-founder and President Kurtis Cummings says Switchyard will partner with Indianapolis pizza joint King Dough to bring fresh-baked New York-style pizza by the slice to the establishment.

He says the coronavirus pandemic and ensuing closures hit Switchyard hard. It’s not currently a restaurant, but Cummings says it isn’t technically a bar, either. He says he was frustrated that the all-ages venue wasn’t allowed to open earlier than Stage 4 of Gov. Eric Holcomb's reopening plan.

“We had to pivot in less than 12 hours and create Switchyard Curbside and Delivery, and just really think outside the box as to how we can keep this venture going," he says.

Cummings says Switchyard’s partnership with King Dough co-owner Adam Sweet, while new, has been a long time coming.

King Dough’s Bloomington location closed earlier this year due to insufficient funds.

With the addition of pizza to the taproom, though, comes a loss: Cummings says Switchyard's indoor dog-friendly policy will go the way of the dodo. However, he says dogs will still be allowed on the patio.

Construction on the new kitchen will start this week and Cummings says he hopes to be slinging slices by the end of July.
