How Many Monroe County Residents Have Died From COVID-19?

WFIU News' City Limits: Coronavirus project continually gets questions about the effects of COVID-19 in various specific counties. Ted Hall recently asked: “How many in Monroe County (residents) have died from the virus?

Statistics gathered from county health departments by the Indiana State Department of Health say as of Monday, 26 deaths were attributed to the virus in Monroe County. You can find county-by-county data here.

According to the daily numbers released at noon Monday by the health department, 209 individuals had tested positive in Monroe County out of 6,259 tests.

That is about 3.3 percent positive tests, much lower than the 10.2 percent positive rate for the state as a whole.

Those raw numbers are 42,633 positive tests out of 418,916 tests administered. A total of 2,363 people has died statewide from COVID-19.

  • Zip code 47408: 24 positive cases, 0.10%
  • Zip code 47404: 49 positive cases, 0.23%
  • Zip code 47403: 33 positive cases, 0.11%
  • Zip code 47401: 58 positive cases, 0.14% 

Additional statistics that might be of interest: As of Monday, 62 percent of the state’s Intensive Care Unit beds were in use; 11.5 percent of the ICU beds were occupied by COVID patients.

And 19 percent of the state’s ventilators were in use, but only 3.6 percent of the state’s inventory were being used by COVID patients.
