COVID-19 Cases In Indiana Long-Term Care Facilities Have Tripled Since April

Indiana reported 205 more positive COVID-19 cases in long-term care facilities this week. While those numbers represent the lowest single-week increase since data has been collected, it doesn’t mean the outbreak is subsiding.

On April 24, just shy of 1,500 Hoosiers in long-term care facilities were infected with COVID-19. But, today more than three times that number have been infected.

Indiana continues to deny requests for more transparency over the outbreak's spread in long-term care facilities. This comes as the state has started to allow outside visitors into facilities. 

Forty-seven percent of the state’s COVID-19 deaths can be traced back to long-term care residents. Further, nearly half of all long-term care facilities have had at least one confirmed case.
