Bloomington officials said a third city employee has been diagnosed with COVID-19, marking the end of a 12-week stretch with no new cases among city employees.
Bloomington Public Engagement Director Mary Catherine Carmichael wrote in a Wednesday press release that the employee is a firefighter who was placed on leave last week after they displayed symptoms consistent with the virus.
This is the second Bloomington Fire Department employee to have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The city announced that positive case March 28, while the second case was a Parks Department employee, announced April 3.
Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton's wife, Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen, tested positive for COVID-19 in early April and was subsequently hospitalized for 10 days with virus-related complications.

Johnsen shared that her mother died from virus complications and her brother had also been hospitalized with a case of COVID-19.
Wednesday's numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health show 214 total cases and 26 confirmed coronavirus deaths in Monroe County.
