A recent cold spell in the region might be good news to farmers who are still harvesting their fields.
Frozen ground means farmers can harvest their fields without worrying if the ground is too saturated from rainfall.
Kokomo Grain Company's senior grain merchandiser Michael Silver says that's a welcomed development for farmers because this year's harvest is already running late.
"They'll be able to support the machines going across the field — the combines and auger carts and so forth, so it should enable farmers to finish up a harvest here in the remaining percentages this fall," he says.
Silver says the harvest season in Indiana is usually complete by the end of October. This year's wrap is expected around Thanksgiving because of heavy rainfall earlier this season.
He says the catch is a heavy snowstorm could create more delays.
