Griffy Lake Nature Preserve was closed to visitors Monday to allow for preparations for the impending deer kill.
Signs were posted around the preserve to indicate the park was closed.
Director of Parks and Recreation Mick Renneisen says the signs would be the only advance public notice of the deer kill.
Renneisen cites a desire to minimize potential interference by those opposed to the kill that might prevent sharpshooting firm White Buffalo Inc. from performing the job that they were "contracted to do."
White Buffalo will kill up to 100 deer in the preserve between Nov. 15 and Feb. 28 in a controversial effort to protect the biodiversity in the park.
