Former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett is set to make his expected bid for mayor of Indianapolis official this week.
Former Indiana Senator and longtime ally Evan Bayh will join Hogsett on Wednesday for an announcement at the Robert Kennedy-Martin Luther King peace memorial on Indy‘s eastside.
Hogsett has, in essence, already entered the race for mayor. He formed an exploratory committee in August, saying he wanted to do some "listening" before making the campaign official.
Hogsett took a position at Bose McKinney & Evans after resigning from his post as U.S. attorney in July.
Republican Mayor Greg Ballard announced last week he won't seek a third term, opening up the field to more candidates.
State Sen. Jim Merritt, R-Indianapolis, and former state GOP Chairman Murray Clark have confirmed they are also considering running for mayor.
