The Indiana University School of Medicine has been tapped to lead a a three-year, $30 million concussion research and education alliance, President Barack Obama unveiled at a news briefing Thursday.
The Concussion Assessment, Research and Education Consortium will involve athletes from as many as 30 universities and aims to fund long-term research of concussion injuries and how treatment and prevention can be improved.
It will also develop education programs meant to change the culture of concussion reporting and management.
The U.S. Department of Defense and the NCAA are each contributing $15 million toward the research. The IU School of Medicine will work in collaboration with the University of Michigan and the Medical College of Wisconsin to complete the studies.
