This year marks 10 years since a tornado touched down not far from the Indianapolis 500.
The F2 twister hit within 10 miles of the track and damaged a nursing home, elementary school and numerous homes on Indy's southeast side.
It also delayed the race for hours and forced track officials to shorten it. Fans took to the grandstands for shelter.
Indianapolis-based National Weather Service Meteorologist John Hendrickson says it's extremely important to heed weather watches and warnings.
Still, he says, this year's Indianapolis 500 will see no such threat.
He says Sunday will be sunny with temperatures in the 80s, but humidity will be low. There's a chance for spotty thunderstorms on Memorial Day.
