Indiana Congressman Andre Carson Wednesday took something of a different tack from most lawmakers who tout job training. Carson advocated for so-called "middle skill" job training during a stop at a company called Training, Incorporated on Indianapolis' northeast side.
The firm provides job and life skills training and prepares employees for the section of the job force that requires more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year college degree.
Training Inc Executive Director Peggy Frame says it's a segment of the labor market which is often overlooked.
"For the Indiana economy it's really important because there's a gap of workers for that type of job. So there aren't enough trained or skilled workers for these middle-skill jobs that are available across the state," she says.
Frame says Training Inc. trains more than 150 clients a year and also supports about 300 alumni. She says middle-skill jobs include welders, office assistants and jobs in nursing.
