Hostess Receives Tax Abatement To Reopen Indianapolis Bakery

Hostess Brands has landed preliminary tax abatement approval from the city of Indianapolis. The company wants to reopen the Indianapolis bakery and hire more than 140 people as part of a $10 million facility improvement plan.

The company requested tax relief of more $500,000. Hostess declared bankruptcy last year, leaving 300 out of work at the Indianapolis plant and about 850 throughout the state at 30 locations.

Workers have said they are excited at the opportunity to be rehired and are hopeful they will still be allowed to unionize, despite unions being the driving force behind strikes that were held immediately prior to Hostess' bankruptcy.

Hostess Brands is also reopening bakeries in Georgia and Kansas.
