Vigo County officials are reporting flash flooding one mile west of Prairieton due to a levee failure. The levee is on Honey Creek in southwestern Vigo County.
A bulletin from the National Weather Service states the failed levee caused flash flooding of the immediate surrounding areas of Prairie Creek including Crooked Creek, the Wabash River, Hawks Creek, Oxendine Bayou and Ashmore Creek.
A levee official reports three or four locations that are about two and a half feet wide where water is now spilling over the top.
Officials urge motorists not to attempt to drive into areas where water covers the roadway.
The flash flood warning is in effect until 10 p.m.
