The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has begun what promises to be a tough round of contract talks with its musicians.
ISO Spokesperson Jessica Di Santo confirms the symphony's three-year contract with Local 3 of the American Federation of Musicians expires September 2. However, she wouldn‘t confirm reports that the ISO is seeking to cut its number of musicians or slash their pay to a multi-million dollar budget gap.
"The ISO has certainly seen previous years of deficits and we have made those very clear and so we‘re certainly looking at all kinds of good negotiations with our musicians union and we hope to have an agreement very soon," she says.
Di Santo says it is too early to say how the symphony will do this year because their fiscal year doesn‘t end until August 31th. The ISO has also fallen short of its capital fund campaign goal of raising $100 million.
